Report: A Google AI researcher resigned after learning Google's 'Bard' uses data from ChatGPT
ChatGPT AI is often accused of leveraging "stolen" data from websites and artists to build its AI models, but this is the first time another AI firm has been accused of stealing from ChatGPT. ChatGPT is powering Bing Chat search features, owing to an exclusive contract between Microsoft and OpenAI. It's something of a major coup, given that Bing leap-frogged long-time search powerhouse Google in adding AI to its setup first, leading to a dip in Google's share price. Google has been desperate to catch up, reportedly calling a "code red" all-hands meeting a few months ago to respond. The result was Google's "Bard" chatbot, which has been the subject of some ridicule thus far for its odd answers and difficulty understanding context.

Google AI researchers want to teach robots tasks through self-supervised reverse engineering - News AKMI
A preprint published by Stanford University and Google researchers proposes an AI technique that predicts how goals were achieved, effectively learning to reverse-engineer tasks. They say it enables autonomous agents to learn through self-supervision, which some experts believe is a critical step toward truly intelligent systems. Learning general policies for complex tasks often requires dealing with unfamiliar objects and scenes, and many methods rely on forms of supervision like expert demonstrations. But these entail significant tuning; demonstrations, for example, must be completed by experts many times over and recorded by special infrastructure. That's unlike the researchers' proposed approach -- time reversal as self-superivision (TRASS) -- which predicts "reversed trajectories" to create sources of supervision that lead to a goal or goals.

As Google AI researcher accused of harassment, female data scientists speak of 'broken system'
The Duke University professor was at a statistics conference last year when, she said, she witnessed Steven Scott, a senior artificial intelligence (AI) researcher at Google, make sexual advances on one of her female students. According to Heller, when she spoke to Scott later at an event dinner, he was defensive and told the professor that she should be nice to him considering that he had secured her a Google-funded faculty research award. Artificial Intelligence has various definitions, but in general it means a program that uses data to build a model of some aspect of the world. This model is then used to make informed decisions and predictions about future events. The technology is used widely, to provide speech and face recognition, language translation, and personal recommendations on music, film and shopping sites.
